NUS team captain sees NTU as main rivals

NUS team captain Jamie Lye is confident in her team’s chances of defending the women’s Netball title that they so gloriously won in 2011, but has singled out powerhouse NTU as their main rivals and last season’s losing finalists SIM as dark horses for this year’s competition.

“I think NTU will still be our strongest opponent this year. Last year they were lacking on the shooter side, but this year they have a really good shooter coming in,” Jamie quipped.

She added, “I belive NTU will step up their game. They are as usual a very hard working team and that’s why I rate them as our biggest opponent.”

Jamie was speaking to ahead of NUS’ match with SMU last Thursday, a match which NUS won 51-25 as the winners of the 2011 SUniG entered the match all fired up led by their coach Ms Chng. NTU defeated SIM 53-30 in the other match of a very wet evening, as thunderstorms swept the island.

All 4 netball teams will meet again for one last time on Monday, 1 October 2012 where NUS will meet their rivals NTU in a mouthwatering match up that will decide on which of the teams emerge as champions for SUniG 2012. The competition is played in a round robin format, with the most number of matches won determining the eventual winner.
