Most of the snacks and tidbits on our shelves are laden with calories and saturated fat, which can be very unhealthy. Here are some tasty yet healthy snacks you should consider.
Celery with Honey
Celery is one of the best things to eat while trying to lose weight, because it only has a mere 16calories per 100 grams. Some might find the taste of celery to be bland on its own, so you can enhance it by dipping the celery sticks into honey for added sweetness. Honey is the perfect dip, as it contains proteins that are proven to fight against infections.
Baby carrots with hummus
Another snack with an accompanying dip is baby carrots and hummus. One stick of baby carrot contains roughly four calories and a high amount of beta-carotene. Besides that, carrots also prevent dryness of skin, hair and nails due to its vitamin A content. Hummus, on the other hand, is a Middle Eastern dip that has been gaining popularity in Singapore. Made from blended chickpeas, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and grounded sesame seeds, it is high in iron, vitamin C and vitamin B6. Chickpeas, its main ingredient, is also known to contain high amount of protein and dietary fiber. Alternatively, switch up the hummus for the honey dip mentioned above.
Also known as soybeans in a pod, edamame is simple enough to prepare - they are boiled or steamed and served with a small amount of salt. With only 29 calories in an average serving of10 pods, this is one of the healthiest savoury snacks around. Edamame, and all other soybeans, are rich in carbohydrates, nutrients, dietary fiber and proteins. Serve edamame with less salt for an even healthier snack.
Grape and cheese stick
Snacks should be portable and easy to carry around, so they can satisfy your hunger pangs at all times. While most fruits are small enough, grapes are the most convenient to bring around due to their size.
Skewer a grape followed by a small slice of cheese on a stick and you’re ready to go. Cheese, eaten in moderation, is also healthy due its high calcium content.
