Singapore’s Triathlon athletes missed out on medals at the 30th SEA Games on Sunday (1 Dec), finishing behind Philippines and Indonesia in both the men’s and women’s individual events.

Singapore's male duo, Loo Chuan Rong (left) and Clement Chow Seng Ren (right) finish behind Philippines and Indonesia in the Men's Individual event.

Clement Chow Seng Ren completed the 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run in a timing of 2:00.15, placing him in fourth position out of 11 competitors in the men’s event. Singapore’s Loo Chuan Rong, placed fifth with 2:01:35.

The women’s event saw Singapore’s Ethel Lin Zhiyun also finish fourth from a field of 10 in a timing of 2:18.08 while Chang Shuwen finished 10th with a timing of in 2:33.54. Philippines again dominated with a one-two finish with Indonesia clinching the bronze.

Despite being disappointed in his performance, Clement Chow says he has no regrets

Clement expressed his disappointment at being unable to better his bronze medal performance from the 2017 SEA Games despite clocking a faster timing. He had completed his 2017 race in 2:03:24.

“I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to improve on my bronze medal performance from two years ago. However, I gave my best effort and left everything on the course today, so no regrets on the outcome,” said the 31-year-old.

Singapore's Ethel Lin Zhiyun also placed fourth in her event, behind Philippines and Indonesia.

With the first two of six events completed, Singapore’s Triathlon representatives can still look forward to the Duathlon men’s and women’s events to be held on Monday (2 Dec) and the mixed events on 4 and 5 December.
