Rising Generation of table tennis talents to be promoted to the Singapore National Table Tennis Team

The STTA is committed to nurture a new generation of accomplished athletes for the national team. Singapore Youths: Beh Kun Ting 马昆廷, 19, Pearlyn Koh许凯欣, 19, Zhang Wanling张菀玲, 20, and Eunice Lim林芷绮, 20, members of the Intermediate Squad will be promoted to the National Team with effect from 9 January 2020.

Beh Kun Ting’s achievements include scoring a Team Bronze at the 2019 ITTF Czech Junior & Cadet Open and 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships as well as a Doubles Gold at the ITTF Swedish Junior & Cadet Open 2019 and finishing Top 32 in the Singles event at the 2019 World Junior Table Tennis Championships.

Pearlyn Koh was part of the Women’s Team that finished Top 8 in the 2018 Asian Games and she scored the Junior Girls’ Team title at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Junior & Table Tennis Championships.

Zhang Wanling’s achievements include scoring second and Top 8 in the Women’s Team event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Games respectively.

Eunice Lim was the 2018 SEA Table Tennis Championships Women’s Singles and Women’s Team Bronze medallist.

The STTA will also promote five athletes into the Intermediate Squad. The Intermediate Squad is to develop high potential youth athletes for progression into National Team.

The five athletes are Andy Wong黄衍凯, 17, Lim Dao Yi林道毅 , 17, Zhou Jingyi周靖祎, 15, Ser Linqian舒麟茜, 15 and Izaac Quek郭勇, 14. The five athletes will join the STTA Intermediate Squad with immediate effect.

Andy Wong bagged 2 Golds and 1 Bronze at the 24th SEA Junior Table Tennis Championships. He won the 2 Gold medals in the Cadet Boys’ Singles & Cadet Boys’ Team events and the Bronze medal in the Cadet Boys’ Doubles event.

Izaac Quek achieved 3 Golds at the 25th SEA Junior Championships- Cadet Boys’ Singles, Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Boys’ Doubles event. In 2019, Izaac also scored the Mixed Doubles Champion title at the ITTF World Cadet Challenge.

Their team mate - Zhou Jingyi medalled in all her three events at the 25th SEA Junior Table Tennis Championships- Gold in Cadet Girls’ Singles, Cadet Girls’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Doubles. She finished the year 2019 on a high note by scoring the Cadet Girls’ Team Bronze at the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships.

Ser Lin Qian scored 2 gold and 1 silver medals at the 25th SEA Junior Table Tennis Championships. She also bagged the Cadet Girls’ Team Bronze at the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships 2019. She continued her winning streak by finishing with a Singles Silver at the 2019 ITTF Chinese Taipei Junior & Cadet Open.

Lim Dao Yi won the Team Gold at the 24th SEA Junior Championships and 2019 ITTF Hong Kong Junior & Cadet Open.

Ellen Lee, JP, PBM said: “Today, we have introduced a fresh generation of young players into our National Team and Intermediate Squad. We have nurtured many of these athletes through our early identification programmes such as the STTA Zone Training Centres and Junior Development Squad, nurturing them in their schooling years, and supporting them as they grow into high-performance athletes.’’

Together, we can make a greater impact that will eventually see more Singaporeans on the world stage.”
