Editor's thoughts: Manchester City was denied a late winner against Spurs after VAR deemed that there was a handball leading up to Jesus' goal. A slow motion replay did show the ball coming off Laporte's arm. It looked totally accidental but new rules state very clearly that any contact with the arm, whether accidental or not, will be taken into account if the result is a goal. Pep Guardiola was less than amused in the post match interview and his displeasure was there for all to see. To his credit though, he did mention that it's part and parcel of the game and life goes on. Personally, I think VAR is fantastic when used in the right context as it allows referees to review incidents that may not be visible to the human eye in real time. However, it will be a different story if we start looking at everything in slow motion and trying to nitpick and be perfect for every single decision. The beauty of the game lies in its imperfection and it will be disastrous to try to be otherwise.
