The launch of the 2019 Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) saw a great turnout earlier today at Guoco Tower, with close to 1,000 coming forward and committing to the Run on 3 November.
In conjunction with ‘Plan Like A Woman, Plan For the Long Run’ a campaign focusing on helping women with their physical and fiscal wellness by Great Eastern, this year’s GEWR will also see the introduction of the first nationwide Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) for women. The IPPT will be held on 24 August at the Singapore Sports Hub and will give all women the opportunity to understand their current fitness levels and serve as a reminder to take proactive steps to build a strong and healthy body for the long run.

The first 50 women who registered and joined trainers Wany Misban, Natalie Dau and Roxanne Gan for a workout at the launch today were rewarded with a complimentary entry to the Run on 3 November. In the lead up to the IPPT and GEWR, Great Eastern has commissioned these three fitness trainers to curate a series of exercises aimed at strengthening the female body. They will be conducting more sessions at various locations in the lead up to the IPPT and GEWR from July.
“Without a doubt, there is plenty of information available on various exercises. However, we cannot take for granted that everyone has access to the information. Our plan is to help make the information as accessible to as many women as possible. Our series of activities will help remind women to not forget about their health. These exercises will hopefully serve as a starting point for a life long journey that will go a long way in helping the body maintain and achieve its best potential,” said Colin Chan, Managing Director, Group Marketing, Great Eastern.
In addition to the training sessions and IPPT initiative, GEWR will continue the popular #RunToLiveGreat programme – a 10-week long exclusive fitness programme that helps many first-time runners start their journey towards leading a healthier lifestyle. Guided by a panel of professional coaches, health and fitness specialists, are also incorporated to guide participants’ fitness goals and track their progress. Last year, #RunToLiveGreat received 300 applications, with just 45 participants selected for the programme. More information will be announced soon.

With every edition of the run, Great Eastern seeks to do more to inspire runners to aim for and achieve more. This year GEWR will expand on recognising more local athletes with the Elite 21.1km Half Marathon category. For the first time, the top 10 elite runners in this category will receive cash prizes and a medal on the podium, compared to just recognising the top three runners.
GEWR will also continue its effort in supporting women’s causes by donating $1 from every participant registration to its beneficiaries – the Breast Cancer Foundation and the Women’s Health Research and Education Fund under SingHealth Duke-NUS Obstetrics & Gynaecology Academic Clinical Programme (OBGYN ACP). Participants who would like to donate on top of GEWR’s efforts may also do so when they register online. There are two options available - a minimum of $5, which will entitle participants to a tutu that they can don on their run, or $20 ($15 will go to charity), where participants can personalise their race tee.
