The Hockey Series Open has come to an exhilarating conclusion yesterday, 1 July, at Sengkang Sports and Recreation Centre. Starting from 23 June to 1 July, both our Men and Women’s National Field Hockey Teams have done us proud with their amazing performances against tough opponents from the region. The results are as follows:

Men’s category:
1st Place: Singapore
2nd Place: Thailand
3rd Place: Taipei

Women’s category:
1st Place: Malaysia
2nd Place: Thailand
3rd Place: Singapore

The Women’s Team faced tough opposition in the 3rd/4th placing match against Kazakhstan. Having lost to the Kazakhstan team 3-0 in the earlier first round of the series, our ladies were the true underdogs. Ending the match with a draw of 3-3, both teams settled the score with a penalty shoot-out, resulting in the 4-2 lead in Singapore’s favour and securing the third place spot.

On the other pitch, the Men’s Team faced Team Thailand for the number 1 position of the series. This was the second time both teams played against each other. Their first encounter concluded with a score of Singapore 4 Thailand 1. Despite Thailand’s best efforts, it was a curious case of deja-vu as Singapore emerged as champions.

Donning the number 11 jersey, Singapore’s own Ahmad Johari was the player to watch as he ranked the highest scorer of the series along with Thailand’s Thanakrit Boon-Art with both players each scoring 8 goals altogether. Figures and statistics aside, both Men and Women’s teams have made us immensely proud. Keep up the great work and congratulations to all participating teams for being a part of the series!
