On 11 February 2018 (Sunday), visitors at the ActiveSG Toa Payoh Sports Hall were treated to an exciting range of Japanese martial arts and traditional performing arts demonstration by students from the Nippon Sport Science University.
The variety of Japanese martial arts showcased on Sunday included Judo, Kyudo, Kendo, Aikido, Karate, Shorinji Kenpo and Sumo wrestling. In addition to the display of martial arts, traditional Japanese dances such as Yosakoi-soran, Wadaiko, Nihon-Buyo and Japanese Taiko were also performed by students. Spectators cheered for their favourite martial artists while they sparred on the mat, flipping their opponents onto the ground in the Judo performance. Sumo wrestlers on the other side of the hall tested out their strength against each other in attempts to push their opponent out of the ring.
