Early Saturday morning, Singapore played host to Southeast Asia’s first official Pokemon themed fun run, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and bonding time between families and friends through the ageless game of Pokemon.

The Promontory @ Marina Bay was transformed into a themed village named ‘Pallet Town’, paying homage to one of the original towns in the first games of the franchise.

Besides photo opportunities with Pikachu mascots and several life-sized standees, there were also craft, video game, food and merchandise booths for participants of all ages and interests.

Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda, who is best known for composing the music for every core game in the franchise, graced the event as a guest, where he ran alongside children in a kids wave, and signed autographs for some lucky fans.

For parents Roger and Lisa Tan, participating in the run served as bonding time with their 12-year-old son, Nicholas.

“My son is crazy over Pokemon and he has several plushies that he sleeps with at home. And when he found out about the race, he wanted to join so badly and he kept asking us about it,” said Lisa.

“So we were thinking, why not? We can spend some time together as a family, make him happy and at the same time, go for a run to keep fit,” added Roger.
