Singapore’s Show jumping team produced the perfect performance to win the SEA Games gold medal at the Singapore Turf Riding Centre on Monday.
The team comprising Catherine Chew on Coquira, Janine Khoo on Snoopnose, Cheong Su-Yen on Claim Collin and Marjanovic Predrag on Calypso picked up no penalties at all from their two rounds as they pipped Malaysia (18 penalties) and Thailand (20 penalties) in the medal positions.
“It is a fantastic feeling,” said Su-Yen, “. Being on home ground was wonderful, we had so many supporters at the venue which is nice but it does also bring a lot of pressure. Overall, we all did our best, worked hard in training and it paid off,” she added.
Su-Yen’s horse, 17-year-old Grey, is a relatively old horse for the jumping field but rolled back the years to deliver a vintage performance.
“He is a little less resilient. It was a lot of work to make sure he was fit and sound enough. I am really proud of him. Two rounds is quite a lot for even a really fit horse to get through so he did well.” she added.
