Strength to Resist (Workshop)

Does the idea of lifting dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells or using the big machines in the gym scare you? Are you hesitant to start working out in the gym because you don’t know what to do? Will you become big and bulky with resistance training? How can resistance training improve your daily living?

Let Marie, an ACE certified personal trainer, share with you the importance, benefits and dispel myths about strength training. She will also be sharing with you some simple exercises using body weight and resistance bands so that you can do some exercises at your own convenience.

Orientation to Square stepping exercise (workshop)

To reduce the burden of fall related injuries and implications among older adults, Japan’s Institute of Square Stepping Exercise have designed Square Stepping Exercise (SSE) program. SSEs are comprised of multiple directional step patterns performed on a mat to improve lower body fitness, functional ability and cognitive stimulation compared to unidirectional and outdoor walking.

Exercise Intensity Workshop

With technology, the accessibility to heart rate measurements is increasingly common these days. While heart rate monitors are commonly used during trainings to measure the intensity of exercise, how do we interpret the data captured? Find out more about heart rate training and its relationship with exercise intensity and how it can be used to design and monitor training programs. This workshop comprises of a 20-minutes theoretical session followed by a 40-minutes exercise session.

Pre and Post-Race Preparation for Runners (Talk)

Planning to run a race but have no idea what to look out for? Join us in this talk to learn some useful tips on pre-race preparation and post-race recovery as we debunk some common myths in running. The talk will be covering training and nutrition techniques leading up to race day, as well as the post-race essentials and recovery practices after crossing the finish line.
